New barbershop quartet? Depends if the itamae at Wasabi in Clayton can sing.

Birthday Boyz

with one comment

Thomas (center) eyes chocolate cake at his 2nd birthday party, while his mom urges him to blow out his candles. His brother Jake patiently waits for his own piece.

Double-decker chocolate cake!Tonight, Kate’s (my girlfriend) family hosted a belated Turkey Day gathering that provided a chance to celebrate her nephew Thomas’ 2nd birthday.

It also happened to be my birthday yesterday. Turns out I’m 30 years (minus nine days) older than him. That’s a crazy thought. When he is my age, I will have been an AARP card holder for at least seven years.

Thomas was showered with gifts tonight. His clear favorite was a toy boat with a detachable train engine. I don’t quite get it, but it doesn’t matter. He loved it.

Kate’s family treated everyone to a delicious Thanksgiving meal. But the presented me with the biggest piece of two-layered chocolate cake I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, I ate so much at dinner I couldn’t even touch it, but will try conquering it this week.

Happy birthday Thomas. Hope you get to sail a real boat like that someday.

‘Raaj’ is a good friend

Jamokes at a Cubs-Cardinals game during the first season of the new Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

My ole sargin’ buddy, Raaj, has posted a collage of pics of us over the past few years because it’s my 32nd birthday. Gettin’ old.

Raaj is in India trying to make it as a freelance international journalist. He is unemployed but has some promising leads.

Check out Raaj’s slideshow.

Christmas lights go up on Black Friday

with one comment

Ready for Christmas in the neighborhood

I’ve never felt so organized. The day after Thanksgiving and our lights are up.  I must say having a green house makes  decorating a little easier.  Just add red!

We’re just about the first on the block to have Christmas lights up, except for the dude down the way who was done decorating a couple days after Halloween. That guy is nuts.

Now on to shopping, I suppose. Haven’t started, and I  had absolutely no interest in battling the wackos camping out all night in line waiting for the big stampede when stores opened at 3 a.m.
