Love the shot of the couple. The composition is great.
I visited NYC last spring for the first time and was afraid to take photos in the subway (I’d heard stories that involved police and I wanted to avoid that). But I’m glad I experimented on our way to Citi Field: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shutterboo502/3767280750/
Thanks, Brooke. Kinda wish that guy with the white bag hadn’t stepped in my frame at the split second before I snapped the shutter. I guess he had to catch the train, too. Had I moved to the right, I would have become subway food. Thanks for your compliments and for the flickr link.
The NYC Subway is amazing….I was there in the late 60′s and the grafitti was awesome…..Then, they cleaned off the grafitti and it is not quite the same….clean but not as interesting. The greatest system is the Tube in London…why don’t you visit there soon Joel and get us some Tube Shots?
Great shots Joel. I like the guy with the backpack being there, it sort of puts something in the foreground between me and the subject, and without that it would be a little too perfectly set up for a subway shot, if you know what I mean. This captures the sometimes cramped feel of a subway platform better.
You are 100 percent allowed to take photos on the NYC subway as long as you don’t have a tripod, light rig, etc. That doesn’t mean the cops all know that though…
I'm a newspaper reporter; I live in St. Louis.
My hometown is Evanston, Ill., but I've called St. Louis my home since 2005. (Go Cubs go!) This blog is just for fun: a collection of personal experiences, observations and photos.
